DREA & SAMHonestly, we're just two girls a long way from home trying to get by with a little help from our friends and this blog apparently. Sam, SPARKY, is in Bloomingtom, Indiana for 10 months of the year and Drea, IGOTNOTHING, is in Boston, Mass. for those 10 months but every so often, they find themselves "comfortably" at home in Los Angeles, Ca. We're pretty cool, no lie. |

Smile. Today, in my holocaust class, we saw a documentary on the Warsaw ghettos. Obviously, it was a depressing sight. There was nothing in this movie to bring a smile on my face. Footage of emaciated people, starving children, children getting shot at by Berlin police. Bodies being piled into graves. I'll spare you details. It was...sad, to say the least. But the one moment that broke my heart, that brought tears to my eyes and was, i guess, the tipping point, was 20 seconds of a cute, skinny boy wearing rags, where he was smiling the most wonderful smile i have ever seen and dancing happily. His smile was one that I haven't seen in a long time, one of true happiness, of pure innocence. For someone in his position, for someone who isn't ever guaranteed a meal, for someone who has to walk down the street and watch the dead bodies lying on the sidewalk, for someone like him to have such a smile on his face unaware of the possibility of a better life killed me. If he can find joy, even if it only lasted for the 20 seconds i saw, even if it may have vanished soon after, why can't we smile more? Us. We take the world for granted. I'm not saying don't be sad, don't get upset or don't cry. I'm just saying find the 20 seconds everyday where you take the time to really smile. & I don't care if this is cliché. It broke my heart and I cried. Appreciate life. You have one. 5:55 PM
