DREA & SAMHonestly, we're just two girls a long way from home trying to get by with a little help from our friends and this blog apparently. Sam, SPARKY, is in Bloomingtom, Indiana for 10 months of the year and Drea, IGOTNOTHING, is in Boston, Mass. for those 10 months but every so often, they find themselves "comfortably" at home in Los Angeles, Ca. what is truth? veritas, la verite, truth...what is it? is there such a thing as truth? can there ever be one single and solid absolute that is the truth...and nothing but the truth? take for instance the institution of american higher education. each university and each department and each professor ascribes to a different "school" in that he or she or they or it all are in agreement to a certain ideal or belief or system in which their subject and by extension, life itself, runs. or ought to be run. but as is the case with human individuals, there are a broad variety of "schools" of thought. which is right? which speaks the truth? which should be followed? and more so, who has the authority to decide. which idea is to be given authority and how can its arguments be given credence? is it the professor that argues that humans need to reckon with their own imperfections in order to fully and better communicate with one another. is it the professor who advocates deficit spending versus economic centralization? because he comes from a school that originated and applied this way of thinking? ...it's easy if you agree. but the issue comes up with contradictions. agreeing with both and trying to reconcile paradoxy. and what if you don't? who holds the truth? and is the truth just to be accepted from the preconceived figure of authority as all words veritable without question? and is the truth to be changed and accepted alternately with each professor, with each "school?" perhaps then the truth is not absolute. it is not stagnant. it is fluidly dynamic. and relative. but how then, can one view the world as it really is? if there is no absolute truth, how can there be absolute reality? or existence at all? 2:49 PM
