DREA & SAMHonestly, we're just two girls a long way from home trying to get by with a little help from our friends and this blog apparently. Sam, SPARKY, is in Bloomingtom, Indiana for 10 months of the year and Drea, IGOTNOTHING, is in Boston, Mass. for those 10 months but every so often, they find themselves "comfortably" at home in Los Angeles, Ca. We're pretty cool, no lie. |

calling all volunteers! it's a bit sad when ngo's and programs that offer a student or young adult the ability to help others around the world heavily advertise and emphasize the rather "vacation" benefits of feeding the starving, cleaning up areas, and just overall volunteer work. the whole point of such a thing is that a person is supposed to sacrifice their typical and everyday luxuries so as to donate time and effort to helping others. note, it's about other people, not oneself. yet, the reality of it all is that without programs explicitly explaining the leisure benefits of volunteer work, particularly abroad, there would not be the mass volume of volunteer member supply. isn't the experience of going abroad and gaining new experiences combined with the deeply humane and emphatic practice of helping others as you would help yourself enough? clearly not. 6:51 PM
